Mouse Prostate Tissue - 40x

Mouse Prostate Tissue

The digital image above is a three-dimensional reconstruction of thick sections of mouse prostate tissue. The prostate is a key component of the male reproductive system. The gland’s growth and development is heavily dependent on hormones produced by the testes. In humans, the prostate is very small in infancy, but undergoes accelerated growth during puberty, at which time the organ typically reaches its full size. Further changes in the prostate occur over time and it is not uncommon for significant enlargement of the prostate to occur late in life.
