 mEGFP in the Mitochondria

mEGFP Fused to a Mitochondrial Targeting Peptide

The monomeric version of enhanced green fluorescent protein (mEGFP) is a high-performance variant that localizes well in most fusions with targeting peptide sequences. To produce the image illustrated above, cDNA for mEGFP was fused to that of a mitochondrial targeting peptide. Mitochondria are extremely dynamic organelles that change shape and move about the cytoplasm on an almost continuous basis. Studies indicate that these mitochondrial activities are influenced by the cytoskeletal microtubule network.
