Rat Kidney Tissue

The three-dimensional reconstruction in the section above depicts rat kidney tissue stained with Alexa Fluor 488 (wheat germ agglutinin; highlighting lectins), Alexa Fluor 568 (phalloidin; labeling actin filaments), and DAPI (nuclei). Rats have been shown to be similar in model to humans when used in research on chronic renal failure, thus providing expectations for future capabilities for diagnosis, detection, and screening various stages of kidney disease, especially in the early stages where it is possible to control blood pressure and protein intake to slow the progression.
