Mouse Embryo Tissue Section

The digital image presented in this section is a three-dimensional reconstruction of a 30-micrometer section of mouse embryo tissue at 17 days that was stained with Alexa Fluor 488 (wheat germ agglutinin; highlighting lectins), Alexa Fluor 568 (phalloidin; labeling actin filaments), and DAPI (nuclei). Because of the differences in implantation time and in individual pace of development, embryos mature at uneven rates after fertilization. At any point of gestation, the embryos of each rodent litter may display substantial variability in their visible morphological state of development.
