EGFP Fused Human Centromere Binding Protein CENP-B

EGFP is among the brightest and most photostable of the Aequorea victoria-based fluorescent proteins. The only disadvantages to its use as a fusion tag are a slight sensitivity to pH and a weak tendency to dimerize. The digital image above demonstrates the localization of EGFP fused to human centromere binding protein CENP-B. A highly conserved protein that binds DNA, CENP-B is thought to be significantly involved in the assembly of specific centromere structures. Centromeres are one of the critical parts of chromosomes in the eukaryotic cell.
