mEmerald Fused to a Peroxisomal Targeting Signal
mEmerald is a high-performance derivative of monomeric EGFP with four additional mutations. This variant is brighter and equally photostable to the parent and is quite useful in creating fusion vectors. The mammalian cell illustrated above is shown expressing peroxisome-targeted mEmerald. Peroxisomes contain more than 40 oxidative enzymes and play an important role in cellular metabolism, lipid degradation, and a number of other cellular activities.
