Rat Colon Tissue
Presented in this section, the digital image is a three-dimensional reconstruction of rat colon tissue that was stained with Alexa Fluor 350 (wheat germ agglutinin; highlighting lectins), Alexa Fluor 568 (phalloidin; labeling actin filaments), and SYTOX Green (nuclei). Rats, as well as mice, have been instrumental in colorectal cancer research. There have been several studies that have focused on inhibiting aberrant crypt foci (ACF) in order to find new methods of chemoprevention of colon cancer in the initiation phase of carcinogenesis.
