Rat Jejunum Tissue
Presented in the digital image in the above section is a three-dimensional reconstruction of rat jejunum tissue stained with Alexa Fluor 350 (wheat germ agglutinin; highlighting lectins), Alexa Fluor 568 (phalloidin; labeling actin filaments), and SYTOX Green (nuclei). The passive transport of sugar fructose and the active transport of amino acids, vitamins, small peptides, and a good amount of glucose are transferred across epithelial cells through the jejunum as well as the ileum. Rat jejunum tissue has been used in diet and obesity research where glucose transport and the resulting limit of nutrient absorption in the jejunum has provided information on the maintenance of obesity.
