Rat Ovary Tissue
The digital image in the section above depicts a three-dimensional reconstruction of rat ovary tissue stained with Alexa Fluor 350 (wheat germ agglutinin; highlighting lectins), Alexa Fluor 568 (phalloidin; labeling actin filaments), and SYTOX Green (nuclei). The rat ovary is often used to study diseases that affect humans, such as ovarian cancer or polycystic ovary syndrome. Recent research has used the reliable rat model as a diagnostic tool in order to more accurately determine if an ovary is benign or malignant. Rat ovaries are also used to gain a better understanding of the reproductive organs in general.
