Rat Stomach Tissue
Presented in the above section, this digital image is a three-dimensional reconstruction of rat stomach fundus tissue stained with Alexa Fluor 488 (WGA), Alexa Fluor 568 (phalloidin; labeling actin filaments), and DAPI (nuclei). The fundic glands are the most abundant type of glands in the mammalian stomach, located in the deep sections of the tunica mucosa. The branched tubular-shaped glands release their secretions, which include the hydrochloric acid that grants the stomach contents a pH of about 2.0, into the gastric pits.
