Mouse Ovary Tissue - 40x
The digital image above is a reconstruction of thick optical sections of mouse ovary tissue imaged at 40x. Research efforts employing the mouse ovary have been very important to the modern understanding of the female reproductive organ. For instance, studies of the mouse ovary have played a key role in overturning the long-held belief that females only generate eggs during fetal development and possess a finite number of eggs during a lifetime. Through studies of female mice, mounting evidence has been gained for the view that there exist germ cell progenitors that can revive previously sterilized ovaries.
